Local Non-Profit Seeks Help in Raising Therapy Dogs for Jacksonville Area Rape Victims

Guardian Therapy Dogs, Inc., a Jacksonville area charity focused on helping rape victims in their recovery process announces its new drive to gain volunteers to assist us by becoming a foster parent and helping raise purebred German Shepherd puppies to provide to rape victims on the First Coast.  Breeders across the region are also needed to donate female puppies to be fostered from the age of 2-8 months old.  The puppy will be fostered until it is ready to serve the needs of rape victims in our community.

Guardian Therapy Dogs is a Jacksonville, FL, area non-profit organization focused on providing a practical sense of security to rape victims. Michael Hosto, founder of Guardian Therapy Dogs says “We provide well socialized German Shepherd dogs to act as daily life companions to victims of violent sexual assault. We do not provide attack dogs” says Hosto. “Actually the opposite is true. We provide warm loving, dogs that have been socialized as puppies with other dogs, cats and children”. Guardian Therapy Dogs are provided on a sliding scale and at no cost at all to those who demonstrate financial need.

The non-profit relies solely on an organization of volunteers committed to helping rape victims live a more normal life with the assistance of a trusted guardian and companion.

Michael Hosto, the founder of Guardian Therapy Dogs, says that raiding a Guardian Therapy Dog is an experience that will build character and personal integrity in a child.  “It is a profound act of generosity, service and charity that your whole family can experience together and be proud of.  Our puppies are just the most adorable things you ever laid your eyes on.  This process is a significant life experience that your children will remember for the rest of their lives.”  According to Hosto, the foster family may also be actively involved in the process of naming and delivering the dog to the victim.
